Ford is recalling more than 816,000 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles to replace passenger-side frontal Takata airbag inflators as part of a recent Takata recall of 5.7 million inflators.
Ford says the following vehicles will have their inflators replaced:
- 2005-2009, 2012 Ford Mustang
- 2005-2006 Ford GT
- 2006-2009, 2012 Ford Fusion
- 2007-2009 Ford Ranger
- 2007-2009 Ford Edge
- 2006-2009, 2012 Lincoln Zephyr and Lincoln MKZ
- 2007-2009 Lincoln MKX
- 2006-2009 Mercury Milan
The Ford recall is part of an expansion of previously recalled cars in new geographic regions, with about 645,700 of the vehicles located in the U.S. and another 161,174 in Canada.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released details about the recall, but Ford says no injuries have been reported due to the passenger-side airbags named in this recall.
The automaker doesn't know when dealers will begin replacing the Takata inflators, but concerned customers should call Ford at 866-436-7332.
Ford has ordered previous recalls in 2014 and 2015 to replace Takata airbags, but one of those recalls was only a regional recall in Florida, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Then in January 2016, Ford recalled 391,000 Ranger trucks after the death of 52-year-old Joel Knight, who was killed while driving a 2006 Ford Ranger in South Carolina. The truck struck a cow in the road and traveled off the road and hit a fence.
