Mazda is recalling about 2.3 million vehicles worldwide to repair problems with rear doors (tailgates) and computers.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) hasn't released information about the recalls and Mazda hasn't said much, but at least six models are affected, including the 2007-2015 Mazda 3, CX-3 and Mazda CX-5.

Some of the vehicles have problems with computer chips used for diesel engines where the computers could cause the engines to quit running.

A separate recall was ordered to fix rear doors (tailgates) that can fail because the paint job can rust.

About 400,000 vehicles are affected in Japan and 1.8 million are outside Japan, but Mazda hasn't named all the affected vehicles or exactly where they are located.

The recalls were announced the same day Mazda reported U.S. auto sales in August represented a decrease of 12.8 percent versus last year.

CarComplaints.com will update this page when NHTSA releases recall details.
