Toyota is recalling more than 2.9 million RAV4 SUVs to fix seat belt problems. Toyota says the 2006-2012 RAV4 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV SUVs have lap-shoulder seat belts in both second-row outboard seats that could break in a crash.
Toyota tracked the problem to a metal seat cushion frame that can contact a section of the lap belt webbing. In a severe frontal crash, the metal can cut the webbing and cause the seat belt to fail in a crash.
The automaker says dealers will add a resin cover to the metal seat cushion frame to protect the seat belt, however, Toyota doesn't know when the recall will begin. In addition, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hasn't released details of the recall.
Owners of the 2006-2012 RAV4 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV SUVs can contact Toyota customer service at 800-331-4331.
CarComplaints.com will update this page when more details are available. Until then, over 1,550 RAV4 owners have complained about their SUVs, complaints you can read below.
