Scion FR-S Recalled to Fix Rollaway Threat

Toyota is recalling its 2013-2016 Scion FR-S cars that could roll away when they shouldn't. The automaker says the 26,000 cars have problems with the ignition key interlock function.

The Scion FR-S has connectors for the transmission key interlock that may not have been connected prior to being sold. That means a driver can remove the ignition key in gear positions other than "Park." A driver might not know of a problem until the car is down the street after rolling away.

Toyota hasn't released additional details about the recall other than to say dealers will have the ignition key interlock function confirmed and if needed, the delivery mode connectors will be connected.

Owners of the 2013-2016 Scion FR-S can contact Toyota at 800-331-4331.

The recall comes days after Toyota said it will retire the Scion brand and rebadge the vehicles as Toyotas.

Beginning in August 2016, all model year 2017 Scion vehicles will be known as Toyota vehicles, including the FR-S sports car, iA sedan, iM 5-door hatchback and the forthcoming C-HR. For the tC sports coupe, it will be the end of the line as production ends in August 2016.

Toyota says Scion customers won't be affected by the changes as customers will continue to be serviced by Toyota dealerships.
