A Mercedes-Benz GLA250 and GLA250 4Matic recall is necessary because the left anchor plates of the rear middle seat belts may be loose.
The 2018-2019 GLA250 vehicles will be inspected by dealerships and have the left anchor plates of the rear middle seat belts repaired.
More than 3,400 Mercedes vehicles are recalled in the U.S. and about 93 Canadian vehicles are affected.
Mercedes received a report in September 2018 concerning a GLA250 at a Mercedes facility that experienced problems with a detached left anchor plate of the rear middle seat belt.
The automaker re-trained employees even though Mercedes believed the seat belt problem was an isolated event, and a special tension test was installed on the assembly line. But a second report was received in November 2018 even though changes were allegedly made during production.
Mercedes made additional changes at the plant, then discovered vehicles may have been leaving the assembly plant without the assembly line tension tests.
The automaker says the left anchor plate of the rear middle seat belt would only be kept in position by the rear seat cushion, but if a passenger were to attempt to fasten the rear middle seat belt, the left anchor plate would immediately become loose.
The Mercedes-Benz recall is expected to begin October 8, 2019.
GLA250 and GLA250 4Matic owners may contact the automaker at 800-367-6372.
