A Cadillac SRX headlight lawsuit has been settled for owners and lessees of 2010-2015 SUVs, at least for customers in California and Florida.

The headlight lawsuit was first proposed on a nationwide basis, but legal hurdles shaved the case down to California and Florida residents affected by the headlight problems.

The Cadillac SRX headlight lawsuit was filed in 2017 by plaintiffs who allege seals in the exterior housing units wear out and allow moisture to condense and block the output of light.

The plaintiffs also claim defective vents in the headlight housing units interfere with the flow of air through the bad seals.

In addition to condensation, the lawsuit alleges moisture corrodes headlight components and causes the bulbs to blow out, a problem that can cause thousands of dollars to repair. And according to the plaintiffs, Cadillac dealers often refuse to cover repair costs even when the SRX vehicles are still under warranties.

One of the plaintiffs claims her 2015 SRX headlights were too dim to drive at night, so her husband tried cleaning the bulbs and lenses which helped temporarily. Even after a dealer made repairs the headlights were still dim.

Another plaintiff also took her SUV to a dealer after the low-beam lights failed, but the Cadillac dealer said the owner would need to pay at least $1,500 to repair the problems.

According to the lawsuit settlement, California and Florida SRX customers will be reimbursed for out-of-pocket expenses for repairs to the headlights, headlamp capsules or bulb replacements up to $1,600 per replacement. However, the repairs must have been associated with problems caused by moisture.

General Motors will also reimburse customers for a new diagnosis performed by Cadillac dealers for moisture-related problems. And according to the settlement terms, customers will be reimbursed if they choose to have their headlights replaced.

Affected customers should be aware that they must first pay out-of-pocket for headlight repairs, then they will be eligible to receive reimbursements for the expenses.

The Cadillac SRX headlight lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division - Davis, et. al, v. General Motors LLC.

The plaintiffs are represented by Berger & Montague P.C.

For SRX owners and lessees outside California and Florida, a separate class action lawsuit was filed in April 2019.
