Maserati is recalling more than 2,741 model year 2018 Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli cars at risk of fires due to fuel lines that can leak at the connections.

About 1,406 recalled cars are in the U.S, 86 are in Canada and the rest are outside North America.

Maserati opened an investigation as a result of two incidents during testing where fuel leaks were discovered. Engineers determined chips on the metal fuel line pipe ends caused leaks where the metal connects to the plastic fuel pipe lines. The supplier found the production period for all affected cars was July 24, 2017, to December 14, 2017.

Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli drivers may notice the smell of fuel along with illuminated "check engine" lights.

The recall is expected to begin February 9, 2018. Maserati dealers will install new fuel delivery line kits, a job that will take about 2.5 hours for the V6 engine and 2 hours for the V8 engine.

Owners of recalled 2018 Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli cars may call 201-510-2369 and refer to recall number 363.
