Audi Recalls A5 to Fix Head Curtain Airbag Problems

Audi is recalling more than 8,000 model year 2018 Audi A5 coupes just days before year 2018 appears on the calendar.

The automaker says the cars were built with head curtain airbag assemblies that may fail to unfold properly in a crash.

Audi says the curtain airbags can get caught on the trim of the A-pillars due to excess fabric on the airbags.

Tests were conducted that showed abnormalities in the way the head curtain airbags deployed even though previous tests showed no problems. Engineers found that excess fabric on the airbags made by Autoliv and paper sleeves on the upper A-pillars need to be removed.

All Audi A5s built after December 08, 2017, have updated airbag designs without the extra fabric and without the paper sleeves.

The automaker didn't say more about the 2018 Audi A5 coupe recall, other than the recall is expected to begin January 31, 2018.

Owners with concerns should call 800-253-2834 and refer to recall number 69T7.
